Cristina’s 25 Fascinating Facts

July 27, 2007
  1. I love Science.
  2. I have a BS in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from UCSD.
  3. I work full-time for Temecula’s only Biotech Company as a Research Scientist.  I love putting on my white lab coat and sitting at my lab bench doing experiments all day.  I know this makes me a total nerd, but oh well what can you do?
  4. Card carrying members of PETA, should skip to number five… At my former job I performed over 300 open-heart surgeries.  My patients were rats, and I was intentionally making them have a heart attack to research a drug.
  5. I minored in French Literature, although I don’t really remember any French now.
  6. My dream car is the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500.  And once I learn how to drive a stick shift and have an extra $100k lying around, I am sure Ryan will let me get one.
  7. The first toy I remember playing with was a toy truck my dad gave me for my second birthday.  I don’t remember playing with any dolls or Barbies.
  8. I love the movie Gone is Sixty Seconds.  See #6.
  9. Ryan was the first and only guy I have ever kissed.
  10. I want to go back to school one day and get my PhD in some biological science.  Yes, I am still a nerd, but we already established that in #3.
  11. I enjoy making hand made cards, scrapbooking, and other paper crafts.
  12. I have an obsession with paper.  I have hundreds of pieces of patterned paper.  I can’t get out of Michael’s or JoAnn’s without buying more paper.  I think Ryan is considering forcing me to go to counseling.
  13. I don’t really watch TV shows.  We have a TV, but the only thing we really watch on it is movies.  The one big exception to this is Prison Break, that Wentworth Miller is so HOT.  I have discovered this does mean we are excluded from conversations regarding the latest episode of American Idol or 24, but I am okay with that.
  14. I lost 35lbs last year while training and running/walking a marathon (26.2 miles).  I have since became pregnant and gained it all back, plus 5 more lbs so far.
  15. I love food.  I would rather spend money on a nice dinner than on clothes.
  16. I absolutely love furniture.  I know it sounds weird, but I get so excited when we go shopping for new furniture for the house.
  17. I can do a really good impression of a cat meowing.
  18. I was a model when I was a baby, although you wouldn’t be able to tell now.
  19. When I was 5; I fell off the top bunk of the bunk bed, broke my nose, was screaming, and didn’t wake up.
  20. I have worn a straight jacket.  I was about 6 at the time and had stuck a hooked rock so far up my nose the doctors had to put me in a straight jacket so I wouldn’t move while they took it out.
  21. I have never had a cavity, knock on wood.
  22. My freshmen year in high school I was on the JV down-hill ski team.
  23. I always get March and May confused, I have to start from January and say the months in my head so I know which month is which.
  24. I can’t think of anything interesting, or even anything not interesting, to write for #24.
  25. I like to read mindless mystery books that have a slight hint of romance in them.  I am currently reading Janet Evanovich’s Lean Mean Thirteen, it is too much fun.

25 Things you don’t need to know about me

July 23, 2007

This is a result of Tami’s creative post idea. I will make sure Cristina goes next:

  1.  I really want to try doing stand-up comedy but I am too scared.
  2. My parents are deaf but I didn’t become fluent in American Sign Language until I got called on an ASL mission.
  3. I absolutely love to go backpacking even though I haven’t been out since my mission.
  4. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I love salty foods though.
  5. I absolutely love movies. I have committed to memory almost the entire screenplay of “The Burbs”, “City Slickers”, “Dumb and Dumber”, and other assorted classic films.
  6. I really enjoy playing soccer, basketball and football. I think baseball is boring to play because I can’t hit a pitch thrown by anyone over the age of 9.
  7. If I ever can afford to have my own huge house built, I want the architects and contractors to build in secret passages and not tell me where they are so I can randomly find a new one when I lean against a curiously placed candlestick holder.
  8. I think Judas Iscariot gets a bad rap.
  9. I live for awkward social moments. There is nothing funnier.
  10. I have run a full (26.2 mile) marathon and two half marathons. I regularly run between 6-10 miles per week and have a goal to regularly run 40 miles per week.
  11. I believe that Arby’s was created to remind us that the good Lord giveth;
  12. and that McDonald’s was created to remind us that the good Lord taketh away.
  13. Because I was a missionary cut off from the media during September 11th, 2001 – I have very little connection to the events of that day. They are as remote to me as Pearl Harbor or D-day.
  14. Despite all attempts to convince me otherwise, I think Angelina Jolie is incredibly unattractive. The Jessica’s are all much better (Simpson, Alba, and Biel)
  15. I’ve read all of “The Babysitters Club” books as well as all of the “Sweet Valley High” books. This is thanks to me being a vociferous reader and having an older sister.
  16. I used to have a videotape full of Baseball Highlights and Bloopers that I would watch over and over and over again. I can do a perfect impression of one of the announcers saying: “I have never in my life seen a catcher block home plate like Mike Scioscia”.
  17. I am a very good speller. I took second place in my fourth grade spelling bee. I lost mostly because I was too lazy to study for it.
  18. I was the announcer for the UVSC Wolverine basketball team when I went to school there. I used a really cheesy, affected, over-the-top voice.
  19. I shaved my head because my sister is going through Chemotherapy. I was relieved to find out my head is not lumpy and misshapen.
  20. I’ve been skydiving. It was incredible.
  21. I am very slowly writing two books. One is called Just Care Less and is a sort of humorous self-help book. The other is a fantasy trilogy which will probably end up being pretty lame because I can’t keep my plot focused.
  22. Until a few years ago I would reach into the bathroom and turn on the light at night so that I wouldn’t accidentally see Bloody Mary in the mirror.
  23. A mountain lion charged me once and only turned away because some of the other boy scouts walked into the meadow just before he pounced on me.
  24. My wife is a superior cook with a recipe but I am better when it comes to improvising.
  25. I won best actor in a Minor role for my rendition of Salesman #2 in my High School’s performance of “The Music Man”

Wow, that’s kind of hard to do.

Susan chastised me the other day after reviewing some of my recent posts. Apparently this blog was supposed to be filled with all kinds of insights into the types of feelings I am having as we go through the various stages of Cristina’s pregnancy.

Well, I hate to break it to you Susan, but I don’t actually have “feelings”.  What I do have are calculated analysis.

I have considered the following since we found out we were having a girl:

Weight Watchers

July 6, 2007

Some of you (I say that phrase with a dose of hyperbole as if there were more than two to three people that read this blog with any sort of remote regularity) remember that last year, Cristina and I trained for and ultimately ran an entire 26.2 mile marathon.

What’s with the name?

July 3, 2007

As mentioned previously, we have chosen to name our daughter Sariah Lena Moore.

Let’s talk about Sariah – from the online encyclopedia “Wikipedia”…

In the Book of Mormon, Sariah (Arabic سرايا Sarāyā) is the wife of Lehi, and the mother of Laman, Lemuel, Sam, Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph.

Among LDS linguists, prevalent consensus of the meaning of the name “Sariah” is שׂריה Śaryāh “the LORD is prince”, and an alternative voicing of the name Seraiah.

Please excuse our dust

July 3, 2007

Over the next few days I’m going to be doing some remodeling. So don’t freak out if something looks broken. It’s probably just being changed.

By way of explanation, the site is being changed around a bit form being focused solely on little Sariah and more towards a general Moore family website. A couple things you’ll see as a result of this adjustment:

– More links to sites about our lives (our jobs, our friends, our drug-running cartel)

– More posts about events that don’t necessarily involve the baby

– More pictures

– More messages from Cristina (she doesn’t actually know this yet)

More cowbell.

Hope you enjoy the changes!
